Oaza Books is an independent publishing initiative dedicated to contemporary art, design, and transdisciplinary creative practice. Founded in 2017 in Zagreb by the Art and Design Collective OAZA, the imprint was established with the aim of producing, promoting, and distributing publications that critically engage with the creative process and foster dialogue across cultural disciplines and socio-political contexts.
All Oaza Books titles are designed, edited, and published in-house by the collective, ensuring a distinctive curatorial and visual approach rooted in research, experimentation, and collaboration. Our catalogue spans artistic research, design theory, poetry, illustration, and artists’ books, shaped by OAZA’s long-standing commitment to interdisciplinary thinking and independent publishing.
Over the years, Oaza Books has developed several interconnected editions, each with its own focus:
oBOOK — A series dedicated to art, design, and research, edited and curated by members of the OAZA Collective. The edition emerged from the need to articulate critical perspectives generated through OAZA’s self-initiated projects and long-term research practices.
aBOOK — Artists’ Books Edition
A platform for collaboration with compelling artists from around the world, producing artists’ books that merge contemporary art practice with graphic design and experimental publishing.
Oaza&Sons — Illustrated Edition
A series of thoughtful and inspiring illustrated books for children and adults. Rooted in the belief in the transformative power of children’s literature, the edition approaches the book as a site of art, pedagogy, ethics, and political imagination.
Oaza&Friends — Co-production and co-publishing projects in which OAZA members contribute in various editorial, design, or curatorial roles, expanding the network of collaborations within the independent cultural field.
